2016-2017 Youth Challenge Theme: Get In The Game

Calling all youth!  Step Up wants to inspire 6th through 12th grade students to get in the game.  Instead of sitting back on the sidelines, the Challenge is an opportunity for all participants to get involved and make things happen.

This year’s 2016-2017 Youth Challenge is encouraging over 400 middle and high school youth to be a part of a team effort where they can make a difference.  The service-learning, project-based grant program and competition is encouraging participants to respond to a real school and/or community need to ”develop projects that will positively affect hundreds, even thousands, of others in Tulare County schools and communities.

This year’s Youth Challenge kicks off with a Summit on Wednesday October 26, 2016 to train and empower youth on  how to implement a successful project and learn what it takes to be a leader.  Afterward, students and their advisors work on and implement their project during the course of the school year, turning in final reports in late April.  All projects are evaluated and on Thursday, May 18, 2017, a Red Carpet themed awards event will take place at Visalia's Fox Theater.  This event will recognize schools, in both middle school and high school categories, whose projects exemplified excellence in the impact, Community collaboration, meeting a need and sustainability categories.  There will also be an award for best overall middle school and high school projects.  Up to $30,000 in grant funding will be awarded.

The Step Up Youth Challenge hopes that by empowering the youth of Tulare County they will all make a difference in their schools and communities. For more information, contact
